Cooling Treatment

Innovative solutions to prevent corrosion, sediment and microbiology.

Optimum heat transfer is the most important point in all water-cooled processes. Lime, sediment and biological contamination adversely affect heat transfer. That is why Kurita develops customized solutions for cooling water and process water systems using a combination of lime and scale inhibitors, corrosion inhibitors and biocides.

Kurita's proven treatment concepts include supply of chemicals and system-specific dosing, as well as continuous support to our customers who are satisfied with our services. Thanks to Kurita's extensive research and development efforts, our products comply with the latest technological requirements. In addition to the economic aspects, Kurita pays particular attention to environmentally friendly treatment: beside AOX-free biocides and ozone technology, Kurita offers all phosphate-free treatment concepts. The fact that Kurita has been participating in the NAI index (Nature Index), where only 30 establishments take part in, for over 10 years has reasonable grounds.

Corrosion Inhibitors.

Corrosion in open and closed cooling water systems causes serious damage to equipment, and reduces equipment life and efficiency. With Kurita's effective corrosion inhibitors, such damage is prevented, the costs of replacing pipes and heat exchangers are eliminated and repair and energy costs are reduced.

Kurita offers corrosion inhibitors for open and closed cooling water systems. We also undertake determination of the appropriate corrosion inhibitor depending on the type of cooling water. An excellent corrosion prevention involves not only the correct corrosion inhibitor selection, but also the control of all relevant water parameters. Kurita's highly precise treatening concepts and efficient monitoring systems ensure optimum treatening at every point of your plant.

In addition to conventional corrosion inhibition, we also offer products to control pitting, sub-deposit corrosion and microbiological corrosion (MIC). These types of corrosion are prevented by the use of patented polymers, biocides and biodispersants together with our corrosion inhibitors.

We control the success of our treatening online with the latest technologies. In addition to using traditional corrosion coupons, Kurita constantly monitors corrosion rate and pitting potential. Continuous control allows rapid intervention in case of increased corrosion rates. Kurita also analyzes corrosion damage to find and eliminate the root causes of corrosion.

Prevention of Lime and Deposit Formation.

The formation of deposits originated from calcium carbonate, calcium phosphate, sludge deposits and other materials reduces the efficiency of open and closed cooling water systems. Decreased cooling performance requires time-consuming and costly cleaning. To prevent lime depositing and deposit formation from minerals and other solids, Kurita offers a wide range of inhibitors series using phosphonates, polyphosphates and special polymers.

One of the main advantages of Kurita products is its exceptional dispersive effect on iron and other solids. In this way, mineral-induced calcification and deposit formation are completely prevented and unhindered heat transfer is provided in the heat exchangers. Our products also eliminate the risk of under deposit corrosion formation.

Kurita also offers products that comply with generally restrictive discharge regulations, and also offers phosphate-free products that completely prevent the formation of lime and deposits at high hardness, high pH and high temperatures, even in cooling waters.

Besides chemical cooling water treatment, Kurita also has the expertise to design and efficiently use feed water treatening and side stream filtration.

Control of Microorganisms.

The formation of biofilm and biological deposits adversely affects both open and closed cooling water systems. The biofilm layer reduces heat transfer, reduces cooling performance and increases the risk of microbiological borne corrosion (MIC). This form of corrosion can quickly lead to critical damage and cause serious problems that may come to a standstill.

Pathogenic microorganisms in cooling water, especially legionella, have become important problems in terms of public health in recent years. Legionella, which is present in high concentrations in cooling water, poses a great danger to humans by causing diseases such as legionnaires' disease and Pontiac fever. In the event of such potential health problems, there is a risk of shutting down the equipment and even the entire plant.

Kurita has a wide range of products including oxidizing and non-oxidizing biocides to prevent biofilm formation and biological pollution. In addition to conventional products, Kurita also focuses on environmentally friendly alternatives such as ozone, hydrogen peroxide and chlorine dioxide. The use of additional biodispersants to prevent and clean up biological deposits is particularly successful in systems with high biofouling potential.

* Caution: Biocides should be used with due regard to safety precautions. The label and product information must be read before using.
