Sea Water Treatment Systems
Sea water is a high value salinity water and it is possible to treat it with many methods with developing technology. Among known methods such as distillation, electrodialysis,.. etc., reverse osmosisis the most widely used method known today for the treatment of sea water.
Sea Water Reverse Osmosis Systems are the systems that provide the treatment of ion level by membrane filtration of the total dissolved solids included in sea water.
The most important disadvantages of Sea Water Osmosis Systems were the energies consumed by the pumps to provide the required high pressure. Today, however, especially in high capacity Sea Water Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) systems, energy savings of up to half are achieved by using energy recovery technologies that return the mechanical energy in the concentrated line to the system.
Two technologies are commonly used for energy recovery. The first is an older technology, the “turbo charger” and the other one is the “pressure exchanger”.
With the new generation of energy recovery system, pressure exchangers higher energy savings can be achieved compared to turbo chargers.
